All i can see is a release date and price difference… anyone know?
The Canon HF series camcorders use flash memory to store the highly compressed consumer-grade AVCHD high definiiton video files.
The Canon HG series camcorders use a built-in hard disc drive to store the highly compressed consumer-grade AVCHD high definiiton video files.
The file formats (AVCHD – MTS/M2TS) are the same. The only difference is media type. You might consider investigating whether the compression data stream is the same. 17 mbps vs 24 mbps. Larger number = less compression = better video quality. HDV (Canon HV20/HV30/HV40; Sony HDR-HC9) is 25 mbps…
Also, you might want to see what manual audio control is available. Last time I checked, they have none – even though they have a mic jack. The Canon HV20/HV30/HV40 and Sony HDR-HC9 have a mic jack AND manual audio control.
