Canon Camcorders Vixia Hf10
Is the Canon VIXIA HF10 Good For Me?
I have been looking at new camcorders and this one looks pretty good to me. However, I have been noticing that basically the only real problem people are having is that uploading is difficult. What do I need to know about uploading from this camera before I decide to buy it? Do I need firewire? I use pinnacle studio 12(Ultimate) to edit video. I have Windows Vista and my computer is about a year and a half old.
The Canon HF10 is a flash memory based, AVCHD compression applying, high definition camcorder.
The software that comes in the box is useless. You need to buy a video editor that can deal with AVCHD (MTS) files. If Pinnacle Studio 12 says it can deal with AVCHD files to import and edit, then you should be fine. In the Windows environment, Sony Vegas and Adobe Premiere generally float to the top.
You do not need firewire. Only miniDV and Digital8 tape based camcorders (and a few JVC consumer hard disc drive camcorders) use firewire. Transferring the AVCHD files from the HF10 will have you connecting the camcorder to the computer using USB. When the camcorder is in “PC” mode, the hard drive will mount like any other mass storage device. Copy the files, dismount the camera, launch the AVCHD-capable video editor, drag/drop the copied files in the editor’s Log/Capture or Collections areas or directly to the timeline.
