Are all Canon Vixia HD camcorders compatible with Vista? ?
I checked the Best Buy website for the Vixia HF10 and the HF11. When compared against each other the sheet says neither are compatible with Vista. However, I was told at Best Buy in person that they both will work with XP and if something is compatible with Windows XP that it is also compatible with Vista. I want to be SURE before I buy with the 15% restocking fee they have. Anyone know?
Tiddvision is correct.
The bigger issue is that the Vixia HF10 and HF11 save high definition video to AVCHD format video. Microsoft MovieMaker cannot deal with AVCHD format (MTS/MT2S) video files.
Current versions of Sony Vegas and Adobe Premiere can. Then, your task is to be sure these can run under Vista or XP. Just because something will run under XP DOES NOT mean it will run under Vista.
If the Best Buy person says it will work and it does not, then they should not be charging you a re-stocking fee. If the box says it will not work and the BestBuy person says it will, write a note on a piece of paper and make the Best Buy person sign it – with something like “This _____________ camcorder (include manufacuter and model number) will work using ____________ operating system. If it does not, purchaser can return the unit and will not be charged a restocking fee.”
