Canon 100 Camcorders
Which of these camcorder would you recommend Sony HDR-SR12, Sony HDR-CX12, Canon HR-10 or Canon HF-100?

Drop the ones with a hard drive because of the know issues with vibration, high altitude, file recovery and making archives.
Drop DVD based camcorders because of short record time, problems converting the video and poor video quality due to high compression.
That leaves Flash memory. The video quality won’t be as good as miniDV tape, but that is up to you. Before you buy, if you end up getting an AVCHD camcorder, be sure your video editor can handle AVCHD for the camcorder you are getting. MovieMaker cannot handle AVCHD at all. It is possible that not all Windows video editors claiming AVCHD compatibility can handle AVCHD from all manufacturers. iMovieHD08 running on an Intel Mac can handle AVCHD from all camcorders. AVCHD is used by hard drive and flash memory (and DVD) based camcorders for storing and compressing high definition video. Standard definition is generally stored as highly compressed MPEG2.
MiniDV tape uses least compression on DV (standard definition) and HDV (high defnition).
More video compression = discarded video data = ruduced video quality
