Camcorders With Night Vision
What equipment would you recommened for a Paranormal Investigation Team that is just starting out………….?
Ok so we are starting out really basic, like to see if we even make it before we buy any high techy stuff. We found (at Walmart) the Olympus 1GB Voice Record with USB link, or a mini microphone that plugs into computers (we have a small laptop we could use. The mini microphone would be less convenient but it is cheaper and if we don’t make it as a team would rather be stuck with that.
We figure we will need 2 camcorders, we have one already and we found a converter to make the camcorder work in dim to no light conditions or a night vision camcorder that is only about $150 dollars. (We know it might not work well but… whatever) so should we get both or just the converter.
And finally we found a twenty dollar ELF meter or a sixty five dollar K-II meter. Which should we pick.
PS- We are posting our investigations on youtube which is why we figure we need 2 camcorders, one to set up in the room we are in so it can catch anything and the other to use as a handheld one.
You will also need notebooks and pencils (not pens) for each person. The reason for pencils is that you can write upside down with them and not worry about gravity, nor leaking, nor a lot of other issues. The only drawback is that they aren’t as pretty.
I tend to recommend Olympus recorders over anything else, because the proprietary filtering cuts out a lot of odd noises that some people think are EVP, but are really just noise. The EVP’s which an Olympus tends to catch are really much clearer, and much more difficult to dismiss as pareidolia (what the TV shows call “matrixing”).
I’m thinking having both cameras is better than one, but I can see the advantages of the converter as well. This is just a personal choice, as far as I’m concerned… it’s about equal either way.
ELF is not an EMF strength measurement. ELF is a frequency count, while EMF detectors measure a fairly broad spectrum of frequencies, but also the relative field strengths. I know it’s a little more pricey, but I would recommend spending even more on a digital-readout EMF instead of the K-II (again, this boils down to personal preference on the amount of actual data you get: do you just want a light, or do you want to measure the actual strength of the field?). Also, I’ve seen K-II’s for sale at $45 a few places, so keep shopping around for a better price.
I would also recommend that you brush up on some practices. First, do some real research on the properties. Nothing can prepare you for what you might find than simply knowing what’s gone before.
Second, even if you find something, this isn’t “irrefutable proof” of anything (much to the dismay of those of us who actually have found something significant that science just doesn’t believe yet). Instead, consider it one more chip in the wall of the Temple of Science (to misquote Einstein). The more you can gather that’s real and tangible evidence, the better the end result will be. Trickery can be easily detected, and it’s usually been done so many times that people will spot any fakery as obvious… the moral here is not to try to pull the wool over anyone’s eyes. You will eventually be found out.
Finally, I would highly recommend getting permission on video of the property owner(s) you plan to investigate. This prevents all kinds of problems later, including being able to know about dangerous conditions that might not be obvious (not to mention that rock salt loads from a shotgun aren’t fun… take a lesson from someone who learned this the hard way, please?).
