Does the Yeti Microphone work on camcorders?
I heard it’s a professional USB mic and that it’s really good, but i wanna ask if it would work on a camcorder too.
It would not, for two reasons:
– A camcorder doesn’t load and run device drivers when you plug devices into its USB port. [The Yeti product literature says it doesn't need a driver -- but that isn't quite true; what is really happening is that computer OSs come with generic USB microphone drivers which the Yeti can use.]
– You can’t even hookup the Yeti’s headphone output jack (through an attenuating cable to correct the level) to the camcorder’s mic input, because the Yeti is powered by the +5Vdc provided on a computer’s USB port. The camcorder does not provide power on its mini-USB jack, so the Yeti wouldn’t even power up when hooked to a camcorder. [If you really wanted to, you could plug the USB plug of the Yeti into a computer, and then you could get audio out of the headphone jack.]
