camcorders terminology
buying a camcorder?

I am looking to buy a new Camcorder and i am having a little trouble. First off i have a small understanding of digital camera terminology so bare with me but here is what i am looking for…

Traveling
Snowboarding
School Projects
Fun with Friends
I would totally use it snorkeling
Shock resistance would be nice
Underwater housing
Very nice quality
$600 or less
I would prefer a hard drive but any would be okay
I use imovie for editing
Long Battery Life
Night Vision

these are the main features im looking for and im pretty sure that there are no Camcorders with these features but i need to find one thats right for me

I have a Canon FS11 and it could do all of the above except for:

-snorkeling
-underwater housing
-night vision (it has a powerful LED light but not necessarily for night vision)

The FS11 is $600 and has an internal 16GB flash memory. The battery lasts 3 hours while recording and can capture up to 3h 45m worth of high quality video (on the highest setting). The on-board flash memory has few moving parts so it’s more shock-proof than other camcorders. And one more thing about this camcorder, it has 48x zoom. It’s freaking crazy!!!!!

If you really want the underwater capabilities, check out the Panasonic SDR-SW20R Digital Camcorder. It has OK video capabilities and I don’t really know anything about it other than it is fully underwater submersible without a housing. I guess that’s the only cool thing about it.

So these two cameras are pretty good and has their own unique strengths. Click on the links to check them out =)
