Camcorders Slow Motion

Which High Def Camcorder should I get? Canon Vixia HFS10 or Panasonic HDC-TM300?
Hey all
Im kinda torn between two camcorders
The Panasonic HDC-TM300 (best price about £720) and Canon HFS10 – (best price about £820)
Both have fantastic specs with manual focus rings but now inm kinda torn because the Panna has a fantastic Time lapse feature but no high speed recording for slow mo. The Canon does slow mo up to 60fps – from what i understand and the low light performance is slightly better.
I want to film mainly action type footage where in cases the slow motion may be handy. On the otherhand i have always done slow motion using Sony Vegas. As the Canon only goes to 60fps there may not be that much gained.
Any ideas?

REVIEW:
I wanted a solid state HD camcorder with a viewfinder, as I find LCD monitors difficult to view in bright light. The Panasonic TM300 is one of few that has one. Disappointingly, it doesn’t tilt and has a hard plastic eyecup but at least it’s there.
The TM300 produces excellent HD video and decent still images that look great on my Sony Bravia TV but the AVCHD footage is difficult to edit, even on a quad core PC. I transcode to MPG2 for easier editing. Of course, this applies to all manufacturer’s camcorders using AVCHD.
Panasonic have replaced the joystick by a touchscreen which works quite well but it’s soon covered in fingerprints. There’s also a row of membrane-type buttons along the bottom of the screen that duplicate the main controls. These are useful if the camera is on a tripod but they need to be pressed firmly to work.
The lens ring is OK for fine-tuning zoom or focus but needs too many turns for large adjustments.
The fully-auto mode (called `iA’) gives generally excellent results. Normal auto gives access to `Pro’ features such as zebras (over exposure indication), live histogram and luminescence readings. In manual mode, shutter, aperture and white balance can be set via the touchscreen or lens ring (if using the EVF). It takes a bit of practice to get right so I found exposure best left to the camera though manual white balance is easy to set.
The microphone is situated on top of the camera and sound quality is surprisingly good, even wind noise wasn’t too bad.
Battery life is excellent, I easily got a days use from one charge. The built in memory holds 4 hours of video at highest quality, which I found ample.
Some of the features, like AF tracking, are just gimmicks but time-lapse is great fun!
Zoom range is 12x; roughly equivalent to 45 – 540mm (35mm equivalent). This is not exactly wide-angle and if you’re wanting to film indoors you may want to consider a wide-angle adaptor.
I’m happy with my TM300. It’s a great family camcorder that anyone from novice to more experienced can use.

Canon LEGRIA HF S10 Camcorder

REVIEW:
First off I am a geek when it comes to camcorders and I have a fair few I use for general use and for semi-professional use. When I heard about the new LEGRIA range with the 8.59 MP sensor, I knew this would top my other handheld camcorders.
First thing you notice when you hold this beauty is the weight, it does feel allot heavier, but I put this down to good quality components and solidity. I had a Canon HV20 although very good in it’s days was pretty light. This one feels like you are holding a good quality handheld. It has great handling.
The other thing you will notice is that the menu system has changed, it’s allot better and easier to navigate(I personally like it very much). Another thing (which may seem odd to some) is there is no viewfinder, you have no choice but to use the lcd multi-angle screen, but that’s a minor point. Most people generally use the screen anyway. The controls will feel familiar for people who have used the previous models in canons range, but for people who have used a Sony or anyother camcorder will also feel comfortable in using this camcorder.
Anyway, now the great points about this model. It has 32gb internal flash memory and you can add another 32gb SDHC card. I was told by canon that the firmware will allow for larger card sizes i.e. 64gb+. But for now it’s more than enough for a days work.
The most impressive feature is the new Video Snapshot, this basically allows you to take short 4 second burst shots by pressing recording, this really helps when you just want short clips. The media use this ability and most of the high range pro-camcorders all have this. I use this functionality allot as you record just the important scenes and makes it a doodle when you come to edit everything, it is very professional. So, to have it in this model is a treat.
Canon tend to always have good picture quality and true to form so does this one, but this one trumps other models in this price range, the picture quality on this model is brilliant it comes close to my canon XH G1s which I use for semi-pro use. I am not kidding. The XH G1s cost me £3800 and thats an import from Japan. So, for this model you have features that are in pro camcorders. If you use them or not it’s entirely upto you.
Another feature is the face detection ability, it can focus on faces etc much faster and with greater clarity, I used it a recent party and I was truely impressed at the ability to focus in low light conditions. A nice feature here is the movie light for night and low light scenes this is on top of the Flashlight utili
