Camcorders Second Hand
What are some entry level prosumer camcorders?
With a budget of Around £1000 tops but i would be willing to buy second hand anyway!
Prices vary too widely with used – we’ll stay with new and you can see if there are any that fit.
First off, you probably won’t find any “prosumers” at your stated price point. But just to understand, lets define the “prosumer” capabilities:
1) Lens filter diameter of 60mm or larger.
2) Imaging chip 1/4″ or larger – 3CCD or 3CMOS preferred
3) Audio-in jack.
4) Manual audio control.
5) Low compression video capture.
6) Manual controls on outside of camcorder.
Assuming we agree, some listed be low may miss 1 or 2 of the above items… for the most part…
Standard definition only:
Canon GL2
Panasonic AG-DVX100 (actually, a pro model – uses XLR audio-in)
Standard definition and high definition:
Sony HVR-HD1000 (shoulder-mount)
Sony HDR-FX7
Sony HVR-A1
Sony HDR-FX1000
There are a few others, but this is a start…
The biggest visible difference (other than the lens size) is the use of 1/8″ audio-in connection rather than XLR audio-in connections. Canon XHA1, Panasonic AG-HVX200, Sony HVR-Z5, etc…
Below the “prosumers” are the high end consumer cams. Sony HDR-HC9, HDR-CX 500 series; Canon HF S series; Panasonic HDC-TM700 series. 1/8″ audio connector, 58mm lens filter diameter or smaller, manual controls accessed using menu system.
