Big difference between 17p and 24p bitrate camcorders?
Just wondering if there is a noticeable difference between these two bitrates? New HD camcorders from Panasonic have only 17p while Sony has 24p. Is it a big difference in quality?

both 17p and 24p will flicker badly. to eliminate flicker you need to shoot 30i (interlace) or 60p. broadcast television is 30i or 60p for that reason. FYI, these are frame rates, not bit rates. bit rates are measured in mpbs (megabits per second) not frames per second. perhaps you meant 17 mbps, bits have nothing to do with interlace or progressive scan. both 17 and 24 mbps are above average bit rates for AVCHD and should look ok. of course neither matches HDV for quality if that is important to you.
