Camcorders Macs
Is the Panasonic HDC-TM700 or Canon VIXIA HF S200 compatible with a Mac?
I’ve heard that importing videos from the panasonic can be a bit problematic because it is not in the standard AVCHD format. As for the Canon, I haven’t heard anything about Mac compatibility. Anyone know whether or not these two camcorders can easily export to Macs?
It depends on the Mac and the video editor being used.
If a new Mac (within a year old or so) and current version of Final Cut Express or Final Cut Pro, then both work fine. Even iMovie ’09 will work.
For what it is worth, I have a Canon HF S100. The AVCHD MTS file format is the same as the HF S200.
If you are referring to “AVCHD lite”, FCE and FCP should have no issues dealing with that. Unlear on iMovie, but worst case is just transcode the MTS files (HandBrake from www.handbrake.fr ) to a usable file format – no biggie.
