Camcorders Imovie
what high-definition camcorders are compatible with my MacBook and iMovie 6 via Fire Wire?
is there a hard-drive, high-def camcorder that is compatible with my MacBook, FireWire, and iMovie 6?
It is my understanding that iMovie 6 supports HDV 720p and 1080i. If you have a camera that shoots those formats, you should be OK.
I would really stay away from hard-drive, hi-def camcorders though. Unless you have a massive amount of storage space, you’ll have no place to store your video. Hi-Def, real hi-def, takes up a lot of space. And the real drawback to hard-drive video is that hard drives crash and, if it ever does, you’ve lost all of your video.
For the average user (consumer to semi-pro) tapes just make more sense. You can always re-capture a tape but once a hard drive goes, it’s gone.
