Camcorders Hard Drive Reviews
Help me choose a hard drive camcorder. Here’s what I’m looking for:?
I am looking for something for less than 500.00 that will record in a format recognized by any of the larger video editing softwares. I’ve been reading a lot about camcorders that record in .mod (mpeg 2 I believe) format, and although I know how to convert them, I always lose the quality, or the audio for that matter. I just dont want to spend all day fiddling. I would also like the camcorder to have gotten semi decent reviews, and be somewhat stylish. Let me know and thanks for your help!
That’s the problem with HDD cameras the video is highly compressed to get the footage onto a relatively small hard drive. A full Avi file is about 1gb for 5 Min’s of video, do the math. compression= reduced quality, it doesn’t matter how its wrapped up that’s a fact. The only way is to reduce the amount of compression used.
The formats that all video editing packages use are basically MPG and AVI with a couple of extras. For best results always use AVI although slightly compressed, it works 100%.
Mp4 files are a problem, there are a few that will edit them but they are compressed, there are some very good software packages around that will edit these files, but the results will never be as good as AVI. For quality use tapes Mini-dv always the best, cameras are getting cheaper and there are a number that offer HD. all you need to do is plug it in Via Firewire capture it, edit it and burn it very simple. And quality will be as good as you are going to get.
Professionals still use Tapes, I think that says something.
