Which Canon or Sony camcorders have live video output in HDMI or Component format?
Um… all of them that use those cables. This is one way to monitor what the camcorder sees if you can’t use the viewfinder or LCD panel.
I use the composite video out when my camcorders are on a camera crane because I can’t see the camcorder’s LCD panel. But I could just as easily use the component video out to HD monitor – if I wanted to drag along a monitor with component-inputs. HDMI would work the same way. A portable Sony DVD player with AV-in is handy because the battery life is 6+ hours when it is only a monitor and not playing a DVD. I use a HDR-HC1 and a HDR-FX1.

Keep in mind that camcorders are designed to be camcorders – not studio cameras. Camcorders can auto-shut off and do other stuff that you might not want it to do if you try to use it as a studio camera.
