Are Flip camcorders good for recording me singing?
I want to start making videos, kinda like Megan and Liz, so I need good quality because my voice sounds horrible under some recording mics. And I asked for a camera for Christmas, like a digital camera, but since Flip (regular, not HD) takes video, which is my main priority, and are less expensive than most cameras, I’m asking for one of those. But are they good for recording voice and guitar? And how much is the least expensive one?
Consumer-grade camcorders do not record audio very well; especially pocket cams that have omni-directional microphones (some non-stereo). Ideally, you should use a separate audio recorder with a 2 or more channel (microphone) mixer with controls for gain and balance. Then you would mate the audio to your video in post. But another option, although not the best, is to use a good quality mic with your camcorder. But for your budget, consider the Kodak Zi8. It is the only pocket cam that I know of that has a microphone input port. And use decent mic to get you started would be something like the Sony ECMMS907.
