Camcorders England
I have a Toshiba HDTV here in Canada. Will it work back in the UK? Forget DVD, consoles – just the TV itself!?
I have tried reading up on NTSC and PAL, but can not find a clear answer anywhere. Playing DVD’s, VHS, camcorders, games consoles etc in the UK does not matter. Just would like to know if I can pack my TV (bought here in Canada), ship it to England, plug it in and it works!
I would say no. First the AC voltage in England is 230v. Your TV is probably 120v. Some manufacturers these days make products that can use both but I doubt your TV will. Check the specifications page.
THe other problem is that England uses PAL…a different broadcast system then NTSC here in North America. So unless your unit is switchable between PAL and NTSC it wouldn’t work even if the voltages were the same.
All of the above applies to standard-def video. I’m not even sure what standards the British are going to use for HI-def video.
