Does size matter…when it comes to camcorders?
I’m looking for a new camcorder to replace my aging Sony TRV20. I want a hi-def, 3 chip design. I see plenty of cameras that fit that description, but most are tiny, handheld units. There may not be anything wrong with that but I instinctively shy away from them and toward the larger models, not the big ‘over-the-shoulder’ ENG ones but the mid-sized cameras, Think GL-1, GL-2, or VX-2100 size. Am I worries about nothing? Are camcorders advanced enough now that consumer-sized models shoot as good as the big boys? I just don’t want to pay more than I have to for good quality.
p.s. I shoot work events, and the occaisional party or amateur concert and customers have been happy til now, but the increase in HD TVs means I have to step up.
To some it does matter, a smaller design means less grip, and anybody with butterfingers sure wouldn’t want that.
Now, for your case, if you do it often, I would go with one that has more grip, but if you use it once in a blue moon, then you could go with a small cheap one like a Flip Mino HD, but as for me, I wouldn’t want to get one of those myself.
