Camcorders Advice

I need advice on buying a camcorder urgently.?
I know nothing about camcorders and I am currently a foreigner here in China, and cant get advice here that I understand. What is the best make for an affordable price. Sony? Panasonic? Samsung? JVC? I know Canon is good but its too expensive. Ive been looking at one Sony DCR-HC36E, is it a good one, because the price is good. But what is the difference between HDR, DCR-SR, DCR-DVD, DCR-HC? Because I want a good quality camcorder for a good price, and I dont want one that uses DVD’s, I here its not so good, I have a DVD writer if I want videos on DVD. And also can a camcorder take digital camera quality photos, how does that work? Should I rather buy a digital camera that can make good videos? I hope someone can give me some expert advice and not links, Ive checked out a million websites allready. Thanks.
There are three storage types for camcorders — DVD, Hard Drive, and Cassette. Both DVD and Hard Drive camcorders compress video, and therefore have a lower quality. I would never chose one for myself. In regards to cassette type camcorders, get a camcorder that uses MiniDV. They are very easy to find.
Next, chose between 1 CCD or 3 CCD camcorders. A 3 CCD camcorder has optical sensors for Red, Green and Blue. A 1 CCD camcorder has one sensor that does all three. 3 CCD Camcorder are the best choice overall for color quality. 1 CCD Camcorders are lower priced. Still, a good 1 CCD camcorder is sometimes better than a cheap 3 CCD camcorder.
Next, look at the quality of the lense. Ignore digital zoom — it reduces quality, and you don’t want to use it. If a camcorder says that it has a 400X zoom, they are refering to a digital zoom. Look for the optical number. It’s probably something like 24X.
A lot of technology goes into lenses — what they are made of, aperature, focal length, etc. You can usually tell a good lense by the size of the lense. A cheap camcorder will have a very small lense — higher end camcorders have larger lenses. Also consider features like optical image stabilization vs. digital image stabilization, low light capability, and the rest. Since you are on a budget, you undoubtedly need to settle for digital image stabilization.
My recommendation — get a Canon or a Sony. You can find low end Panasonic 3 CCD camcorder at a low price, but they aren’t as good as the Canon 1 CCD camcorder for the same price (my opinion). I like the Canon Elura 100 — it’s a nice camcorder for the money.
