Camcorders Accessory Shoe
Is the Rode Directional Shotgun Mic compatible with the Sanyo Xacti VPC – HD100?
First of all, I must admit to being a complete amateur when it comes to camcorders and their related accessories, but I have a couple of questions concerning the aforementioned microphone.
1. I own a Sanyo Xacti VPC – HD100; is the Rode microphone compatible with this type of camcorder?
2. Secondly, assuming that this microphone is compatible with the camcorder I mentioned, what kind of shoe mount will I need to purchase for it? My camcorder doesn’t come with a built-in shoe mount, so I’ll need one. Fortunately, the shock mount is included with the Rode microphone, but I honestly have no idea as to what kind of shoe mount I’ll need.
3. Lastly, is there a cheaper alternative to the Rode microphone? Ideally, I’d like a piece of equipment that is sturdy, records in stereo sound, and works reasonably well.

1) I don’t think the VPC – HD100 has an audio-in jack. Since you have the camera and the manual, you should be able to confirm that. There are two RODE mics made specifically for consumer camcorders. Both use a 1/8″ (3.5mm) jack. The RODE VideoMic is a mono shotgun mic; the Stereo VideoMic does stereo and is not a shotgun mic.
2) If your camcorder does have an audio input, then mounting the camera to a camera bracket (got to amazon and search for “bower camera bracket”) that uses the camera’s tripod mount hole – and the bracket has another mounting hole to use a tripod so you don’t lose functionality.
