Flash-based high-definition camcorders – what must be done?
It would appear that the following must be done for flash-based high-definition camcorders:
1) The HD video is recorded to an SD memory card or some other removable device
2) The video is uploaded to a computer which has a lot of space
3) The HD video is burned to a blue-ray disc, and the original on the computer is deleted to save space
Is there anything I’m missing? What computer program would be required to recognize the video data once it go onto the computer? What if the computer doesn’t have enough space for video? What if the computer cannot burn blue-ray discs? What if you run out of space on a memory card and you’re nowhere near a computer? What is the best way to archive flash-based video?
Despite low costs on flash-based camcorders, it would appear as though MiniDV-based camcorders would be better and less of a hassle, but I may be wrong.

2) correct. The same can be said for HDV from miniDV tape, too.
3) The AVCHD compressed video *can* be burned directly to a bluray disc for playback – but you can also burn that MTS data file to a regular single layer or double layer DVD (they don’t hold as much, but it is possible). You can also use an AVCHD-capable video editor – and it will be able to export to various formats – including standard definition which can be burned to the regular DVDs for playback in a regular DVD player.
You are correct – MiniDV tape based camcorders continue to provide best video quality at the lowest $per gig, have the best archive mechanism… among other solid reasons.
