Best Hd Camcorders
In your opinion what is the best HD camcorder to get into film?
I went to BHphotovideo.com and they have a great selection of camcorders..
but I have no idea which one to get for a starter camera
I dont want the very basic one but one that is going to get the job done right
budget around $2K to $3k
any suggestions?
In that budget range, I think your only choice is the Sony HDR-FX7. And it leaves you budget for low-end mics, an XLR adapter (juicedLink or BeachTek) and a decent tripod.
Generally, the Sony HDR-FX1000 would be the “entry level” But because of its 1/8″ (3.5mm) audio-in jack, it is still considered a “prosumer”.
The Sony HVR-Z1, Z5 and HDCAM series; Panasonic AG-HVX200 series, Canon XH and XLH series and JVC GY-HM series are more the ball park… add mics, lights, rechargeable batteries, cases, lenses, steadying devices (good tripod, vest system, camera crane, etc) and expect to pay 2x-3x more than just the camcorder to “get started”. This list is incomplete, but enough to get started…
And we have not yet discussed whether your computer hardware and video editing software is capable of dealing with HDV format video… For instance, does your computer have a firewire port? You won’t get HDV video from the camcorder to the computer using USB.
