Best 1080p/24p Camcorder for around $1000?

I currently have a Panasonic Ag-Dvx100b but I want to upgrade to HD. I don’t have the money for the upgrade of that particular camcorder. I want something that could conceivably be used for an independent short film or perhaps even feature length. I also want something that won’t be obsolete immediately, so I am considering getting something that saves to hard drive instead of miniDv. But I could be swayed either way easily. The cameras I’m considering are:

Stick with Tape, dont bother with HDD cameras or flash drive, simple reason the high compression they use adding truly awful codecs, precise editing is a total nightmare, then you have the problem with computers not having enough power (grunt) to process this video.

Tape based cameras have a very long track record, and are still used by many professionals today, simple to edit and process, down side the amount of time it takes to capture the video, but many people spend more time trying to convert the video into a format they can edit reducing the quality in the process.
