Best Fps Camcorders
are there camcorders with variable FPS (frames per second) available on the market ?
i’ve been converting Super 8 movies to DVD via a Camcorder, however, i discovered that my projector displays at 18 frames per second, but a camcorder records at 33 frames per second, which allows it to “see” the black bars inbetween the frames of the film, thus creating quite the annoying flicker. I’ve read if the frames can be syncronized then the flicker would disappear.
one option i’ve toyed with is slowing down the projector to 6fps (as it has that option) and then capturing it on the camcorder, then using movie maker to double the speed of the video .. hopefully eliminating the flicker .. this i have not tried.. however the best solution (that doesn’t cost a bazillion bucks) would be a variable frame speed on a cam corder.
any thoughts would be helpful.
Canon’s current generation (HG20, HF100) camcorders can record at 24FPS. That will give you four recorded frames to every 1 projected frame at 6fps.
You may want to look into a professional film scanning service, it may be cheaper than buying a $600 camera just for this purpose.
