Camcorder FPS ratings?
I’m looking for a good HD camcorder in the $500-$1000 range. I’m confused over the FPS ratings. I know what FPS means, yet it appears that 60i is nowhere near as good as 24p. Is this correct? Is there such thing as 60p?
According to Canon, their Vixia HD camcorders have a 24p mode that looks like film. Is this the top of the line for my price range?

I found out that Canon’s 24p mode is shot at 60i. I think now I’m just slightly more confused.
“24p Cinema Mode enables all aspiring moviemakers to achieve a professional “film-look.” You can change the camcorder’s frame capture rate to 24p (recorded at 60i), which provides the appearance of the same frame rate as movie film. In addition, you can use the camera’s CINEMA setting, which changes the color and tonal characteristics, evoking the look and feel of a movie shown in a theater. For added flexibility, these settings can be used together or independently.”
wow, who ever said 60i does not look as good as 24p is blind as a bat. having the display refreshed 60 times per second results in very fluid and lifelike motion. 24p is an excellent choise for watching paint dry.
motion picture film is also called flicks, because the picture flickers. 24 FPS is not superior, it is just the slowest (and cheapest) rate of projection that gives convincing continuity of motion, at least when viewed in a dark room.
the only reason to use the 24p option on a camcorder is if your work is going to be printed on motion picture film for theatrical projection. for use on DVDs and television, use 30i (60 fields per second). If you are really serious about a film look, then you need to add gate weave, scratches, dust, studder and grain.
there is a 60p, that is used for 720×1280 HD sports telecast.
